I called GTE of Tampa, Florida to clear up an old account related to a car loan that I was unable to complete the last 9 months of the 5 year note before the car broken down. I was a delivery driver at the time and had no income as a result of the car being disabled, and I was unable to get back on my feet enough to make payments on a car that I could no longer drive because of the expense of VW transmission and engine repairs back in 2008.

Now it's 2014 and I am trying to rebuild my credit and settle old debts. I made the call to GTE last week, 3 times now, and was constantly redirected and put on hold because I do not have the old account number of the loan, nor can I retrieve it from the website because my login is blocked and redirected to calling the phone number I dialed to sort this out. A total of 7 times during 3 separate calls, I kept being put on hold because I do not want to provide my Social Security Number and I do not have the account number any longer. I have had my identity compromised last year and don't want to go through that again. I gave up after 3 calls and multiple agents putting me on hold and passing me around because I refused to give out my SS#. I would image that there is a way to look up my account based on my Name, Phone Number, or previous Address. It's not like I am trying to do anything more than settle a debt. I want to PAY money, not receive any. This process seems to be very broken at GTE Credit Union.

I'd really like to get this cleared up if they are willing to settle the debt, but its not worth me risking my identity being compromised again. There were about $450 in fees added to the final amount of the loan balance as well. Perhaps we could negotiate something now, or I can just wait a year and let it fall off my credit report and try to pay other debts that are better equipped to take a payment instead.

Monetary Loss: $450.

Location: Saint Petersburg, Florida

first thing first your calling a bank to obtain an acct that you do not have any information on,you state you rather provide your name rather than social over the phone as if your protecting yourself from theft.Think about it,once a representatives access your acct they will be able to access all of your information including social so if your trying to protect yourself by not stating the social over the phone thats when your wrong, thieves steals Identity from you attending doctors office, dentist office, hospitals, all fast paced jobs where people are seen every day where theres no monitoring or back traces, think about it a phone banking rep are recorded and monitored at all times which means thats an easy trace so why are you so afraid of a cst service rep at a bank...banking co priority are to focus on keeping thier brand name clean from fraud.the only thing u must not do is provide ur routing and acct nbr to an outbound agency over the phone..so stop giving the agents so much push back their there to help u not abuse all your doing is making the situation worse.
